Since he was a child, Minami Harusumi has had vivid dreams about a princess named Veronica and believed that he is her reincarnation. Due to that, he was often teased by his peers. One day, when he got bullied, he discovered that he could use magic like Veronica. Not only that, it turns out his friends were also reincarnations of people who were close to Veronica?! Gathering their newfound memories, Minami and his friends are determined to find out what really happened in their past lives.
Characters
Minami Harusumi (Princess Veronica)
Main character of the manga. He seems to be a pushover at first, but later on he is shown to be cunning and assertive at times (could be Veronica's influence). He started going out with Takao Haruko just shortly before the event that triggered everyone's memories returning took place.
Princess Veronica was the Princess of Zerestria and third in line of succession. A headstrong girl, she was adept at magic and can perform "reflection magic", a type of magic that is only given to royalties. Despite being a princess, she treated everyone equally, irrespective of their class or status.
Takao Haruko (Rida Razasarare)
Minami's girlfriend, the two of them started going out in the beginning of the series. She had feelings for Minami even before he confessed to her and was surprised to find out that her feelings were reciprocated. However, after discovering her memories, her personality reverted to what she was like as Rida. She is very loyal to Minami (Veronica) and was the first one to find out that Minami was Veronica.
Rida Razasarare was Princess Veronica's personal guard and closest friend. She is strict and very loyal to Veronica, and deeply regretted the fact that she died unable to protect her princess.
Midou Ryuuji (Jared Frolio)
Minami's classmate. He discovered his past memories upon finding Minami's notebook, which contains stuffs in Zerestrian language.
Jared Frolio was a priest. He spent his childhood together with Veronica in a monastery. He pleaded to the church to save the castle but was refused. He was one of the priests who remained on the castle that night.
Zeze Ryou
Minami's classmate. He works part time at a karaoke place, which later on becomes regular place for the group meetings. He's laid back and seems to avoid trouble. He is unable to remember who he was in his past life, and prefers to keep it this way.
Glen Schreiber
One of Veronica's squire and friend. He is often mistaken as Veronica's lover. He has feelings for Princess Veronica. It is unclear whether he is reincarnated to the present.
The Past Life
Veronica lived in a castle with Riza, her squires, priests, and some maids. She was to be betrothed to Prince Eugene from Moswick. Prince Eugene then came to the castle with his knights to the castle to meet his future wife and stayed there.
Magic plays a big role in this manga. Magic is casted by using hair, piece of nail or blood of the caster. The church control who is allowed to have what kind of magic. Apart from the priests, magic is only bestowed to nobles and royalties. Healing magic can only be performed by a priest to another priest. Failure to uphold this rule will result in grave consequences. Those who die due to magic are reincarnated, while those who die due to physical wound do not.
One night, without warning Moswick soldiers attacked the castle and a battle ensued. The church, a neutral force, refused to give help and ordered their members to retreat from the castle, although some remained. A blinding light magic pierced through the sky and killed the castle's occupants. By putting together their past life memories, the characters try to figure out what really happened that night.
What I Like:
- Fantasy meets school life tends to be cheesy but Bokura no Kiseki is definitely not. In fact, friendship plays bigger role than romance in this manga.
- Genderbent reincarnation. A guy who is reincarnation of a princess? Why not :D
- The mystery. Who betrayed Princess Veronica? Who is the mysterious person trying to pull the strings in the current world? I can't wait to find out the answer
- Magic battle
What I don't Like
- There are too many characters introduced in early chapters, and I had a hard time figuring out who was who since the drawing is quite similar (like, who is this again??)
- Similarly, in the beginning I had some difficulties matching the past and present selves (especially among Zerestrian squires and Moswick knights)
All in all, I like this manga and I'm looking forward to new chapters to be released soon, as it's getting interesting in later chapters :D
